THIS will be a very special night for Liz and we hope that lots of Lyrebird members come and help Liz celebrate this auspicious occasion: the release of her long anticipated 2nd CD.

With Guitar, five-string banjo, blues harp and lap-steel guitar in tow, Liz Stringer is about to set off on a National tour to showcase her sophomore release: Pendulum. This release and tour was delayed due to Liz breaking her arm nearly two months ago, so Liz is jumping out of her skin to get back on the road - she has energy to burn and where better than on stage to burn it!
Liz won't have any trouble keeping busy as she has also been invited to perform in Deborah Conway's 4th series of 'Broad' featuring Deborah and the RocKwiz Orchestra at places such as The Sydney Opera House.

Liz Stringer's innate musically merged with a true storytellers soul, makes for a very powerful and unique performance, and leaves the listener with a feeling of having uncovered an artist of significance. It is no wonder Conway invited her.
A difficult genre to place, Liz Stringer seamlessly fuses folk, blues and bluegrass that packs dynamite when the mood calls for it.
"A beguiling singer and accomplished songwriter, it is Stringer's prodigious command of the steel-string guitar and banjo that distinguishes her
rom the pack. Man can she play." – Lily Bragge, The Age
Simply, Liz harnesses a sublime simplicity and depth, that effortlessly draws in the listener, and leaves you with a feeling that you are witnessing the humble beginnings of an artist who is truly something special.

Supporting Liz on the night will be two vibrant new Australian acts:

Fireside Bellows (Jordie Lane & Tracy McNeil) As a vehicle through which both songwriters can celebrate a shared love of old-time country music and bluegrass, Fireside Bellows pay homage to these traditions through their two part harmonies, and classic tunes that enter their repertoire. But it is Fireside Bellows melting vocal harmonies that pierce the listener like an arrow through the heart.

Henry Wagons, leader of Melbourne crypto-country quintet Wagons, could be compared accurately enough to any number of credible figures, like Johnny Cash. Henry, has a deep voice, inspirational song-writing abilities and in no time (he, and his band) has become one of the biggest ‘tickets’ in the country.

Lior's affirming music may be hard to accurately portray with mere words, but who better to have a shot than the man himself: "Corner Of An Endless Road is a true representation of my musical landscape; think Led Zeppelin jamming with Nick Drake at a teahouse somewhere in the Middle East." - Lior, 2007

To the casual observer Sydney singer-songwriter Lior emerged from nowhere back in 2005 with his stunning debut album Autumn Flow, but as is often the case with these matters this couldn't be further from the truth. It was in fact the culmination of years of hard work by Lior, time spent honing both his songwriting and delivery down to the record that eventually captured hearts and minds all over the country. The self-financed Autumn Flow - which perfectly showcased Lior's rich voice and enchanting musical arrangements, as well as subtly reflecting his Middle Eastern heritage - in time became one of the most successful independent debuts in Australian history, garnering Lior three ARIA nominations (including Best Male Artist) and a swag of other awards, including a prestigious Triple J 'J Award' nomination for Album Of The Year. But such accolades are merely diversions for Lior. Throughout his career he has revealed a genuine love of the musical form that few can match, displaying an honesty and integrity in his music that unfailingly touches the souls of so many. Not one to compromise his art for commercial considerations, Lior is genuinely all about the music, a sentiment reflected in the way that his following has blossomed organically, without the need for hype or propaganda.

TEX PERKINS

SATURDAY 5TH JULY, 2008. 8PM

SUPPORT:  Mike Noga, Pat Bourke and Gus Agars. In between various commitments to their ‘other bands’ (The Drones, Dallas Crane and The Vandas) these three found a whole in their collective calendars last year and promptly formed a band, Mike Noga and The Gentlemen Of Fortune. On this tour however, the guys will be presenting songs from the quieter side of Mike Noga’s catalogue including cuts from his critically acclaimed ‘Folk Songs’ album and material from the soon to be released follow up ‘One Foul Swoop’.

BYO Drinks & Nibbles. Table Seating. Phone Bookings 5664 9239. Ticket Outlets: Bair Music, Leongatha. Main Street Revelations, Foster. Gecko Studio Gallery, Fish Creek. Email:lyrebirdartscouncil@hotmail.com

He has the job I've always wanted — that of bona fide sex god. He's been lead singer of groups as diverse as the Beasts of Bourbon, Thug, …and of course the Cruel Sea.’ Andrew Denton
Check out Tex & James as they set off around the country on an acoustic adventure like no other with a set full of classic tunes, a few surprises and a whole lot of fun!
To discerning fans of Australian music, the work of Tex Perkins holds pride of place. In the popularity stakes, there have been number one albums, ARIA Awards aplenty, and a litany of unforgettable live performances that are the stuff of local rock & roll folklore.
More recently, beyond the rebel rousing status earned from fronting seminal outfits such as The Cruel Sea and The Beasts Of Bourbon, Tex's solo records (1996's Far Be It From Me and 2000's Dark Horses) have revealed a more intimate side of the artist: That of an emotive singer/songwriter, an acoustic guitar strumming balladeer with a voice that delivers its message in a whisper rather than a roar. Tex Perkins hangs up his Beasts of Bourbon hat and steps into a more mellow mode as he is joined by old friend and fellow Cruel Sea band mate James Cruickshank playing a few select, quieter shows around the country.

Saturday 12th May

Ash Grunwald

It is too simplistic to describe Ash Grunwald as just a blues musician. While it's true that his music is steeped in the delta blues tradition of the legendary acoustic musicians who proliferated in pre-World War Two America's deep South and the giants of electric blues who shaped rock and roll, it's the young Victorian's willingness to combine these influences with grooves and sounds common in contemporary music that sets him apart.
