Party Time!

2024, Lyrebird’s 25th year, has been a celebration of live performance. To finish the year it’s time to party and we would love to have you and your friends along.

A huge highlight at this year’s WOMADadelaide, AURUS is a modern mirage. Hailing from Réunion Island, between Mauritius and Madagascar. The incarnation of our contradictions.

After the transgressive polyphony of his last project ‘3SOMESISTERS‘, AURUS aka Bastien Picot evokes the « Maloya » of his roots (traditional music from Réunion Island) in an orchestral Pop and percussive shell, at the crossroads of James Blake, Peter Gabriel or Woodkid.

With his shamanic appearance and emblematic headdress, AURUS has established himself as a true musical and visual UFO. “He has absorbed all the sounds of the world, from the New York Bronx to African tribes, through British pop, without forgetting Maloya, his roots. He has stored them all in his tenor opera chest. On stage, he is now capable of shaking a whole polyphonic orchestra with his vocal cords. It’s a crowded performance without ever stumbling. All of this is sung in English and Creole. AURUS’ concerts tend towards performance, leaving the audience ecstatic, touched by grace.”

His debut album, ‘Chimera‘, was born as an almost dizzying power of returning to oneself, a profound questioning of her relationship to the world, to others, and to society. With the title ‘Still Alive’, whose music video has been released on April 4th, 2023, AURUS unveils the first part of a very ambitious new project entitled ‘PRISM‘.

It’s a stand up show. You won’t want to sit down anyway! (And we’ll have unallocated tables & chairs if you need to take a breather during the night).
